Tuesday- Not doing much.

Tuesday
Today was the first day we didn't do much. We discovered some beautiful rugs that Paul's mom made. I'll update with pic's another day. Paul also took the kids to a quick visit to one of the houses he used to live in with his dad and Disa.
Kids played Legos, listened to Harry Potter audio book  and studied  the Neolithic period of Crete. We found the timeline of this little part of the world to be fascinating. If you are interested see the page Timeline" for this ( won't be there for a bit)  we have 7 more days of cretan studies and lego re-enactments in case anyone is interested in Crete's timeline.
In any case, it'll help us when we go to the museum in Iraklion (http://www.interkriti.org/crete/iraklion/historical_museum_of_crete.html ) and  to Knossos ( http://www.interkriti.org/crete/iraklion/knossos.html) to really get a solid understanding of events in Crete's history and Crete's place in the ancient world.

Here' s two Cretan time lines-    http://www.interkriti.org/crete/history_of_crete.html    and http://www.ancient.eu/timeline/crete/

This is from a previous day. Paul and Mano trying on Paul's dad's hats! More picts of the old fashioned trunk that his dad stored hats and his barber supplies coming soon....

We ran into Disa's friend ChiChi and Paul's friend Yianni. Off to Melissia for an all day work party leading up to wedding.
Disa- Chi Chi says HI. This pic if for you. We were walking in Kato Kolimbari and she was dining with her hubby.

This is from yesterday but I love it! Look at all these wonderful people enjoying the evening without a care in the world. I don't think it is just the Mediterranean diet that keeps them healthy. Sun, sweat, sikoudia and swimming and friendships also play a role.

At our friend, Yianni's restaurant. The game in the box up top is tavlis, similar to batgammon. The cane that is hanging is a traditional cretan can to hook sheeps. Handmade.

We keep forgetting to take pictures of the food! We are so hungry or talking with people that we forget to take pix.   Here is a greek salad with dried tomatoes, homemade cheese, etc. I think Theo needs to clean the lens of his camera.

  1. Wow, those artifacts are great. Looking forward to seeing the trunk. Paul looks ready for a soft shoe dance like they did in the 1930s and Mano looks like he's ready to join the force! So cute! Where did Paul find these?
