Swimming in the Mediterranean

Day 2 Kolymbari
It's hot! Today we headed to Chania to visit the architect who told us that we would need to wait until an archaeologist was sent to the house. This means Paul will be sucked into the vortex of red tape  that I am seeing in Greece. Inefficiency reigns. Chania has many examples of different types of architecture. My favorite in Crete are the Venetian houses. Tall buildings, tall windows and doors outfitted with whitewashed shutters. Here's more on Cretan architecture http://www.greeka.com/crete/architecture.htm

The boys are already speaking more Greek. It is amazing what a few days can do when they are forced to speak it and listen to others. They are beloved by the older Greeks who knew Paul and Disa when they were younger.

Thanks to grandma, the boys were already outfitted with snorkel and masks. They spent most of the day at the beach swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. The sea was lukewarm, hardly any waves. I was most heartened by the older generation that seems to come to the beach in the afternoon with their friends and enjoy the cool ocean.

We start seeing relatives this week..so stay tuned for pictures of tradition and delicious table spread of food, village homes and family.

Another LOL- the Cretans use the emergency lane as their slow lane or passing lane as per their fancy!
